"July 8th, 1999. The Ulysses asteroid passes Earth's Roche limit, which by sheer gravitational force breaks the asteroid apart into millions of pieces. Many of these pieces burn up harmlessly in the atmosphere... Others, like this piece, were far too large to simply burn into oblivion. This shot, taken from Oured, shows the asteroid in flight toward Farbanti... Its final destination.

Farbanti: The capital of Erusea. The business district of Farbanti was, at one point, a prestigious center for commerce for the Usean continent. A large fragment of the Ulysses asteroid made planetfall directly in Farbanti and completely destroyed the business district. Shock waves from the impact damaged buildings as far out as Johnson Memorial Bridge, and registered on Richter scales across the Usean continent. I decided to focus on the Farbanti impact, not only because of the damage it caused, but also the Continental War that it sparked. Stonehenge, the massive set of rail guns built before Ulysses had passed the Roche limit, was unable to destroy every asteroid fragment that slammed into the Earth. Erusea - as a response to the lack of protection that Stonehenge was able to provide - invaded and occupied the rail gun's location and used it as an anti-aircraft defense system against anyone who dared attack their forces."

Part of the OBC (Osean Broadcast Corporation) documentary series I am writing up about the Usean Continental War during 2004 to 2005. Made in the style of Namco's Ace Combat: Zero OBC documentary wallpapers.

Print will be available for those who wish to purchase it.

Notes: I made this version of the original "day of remembrance" because there was much that I felt could be touched up about it. I don't think I'll be modifying it again. The grain is intentional, coupled with the slight glow from bright areas, it looks more like a photograph.

You're just jealous that I can turn glaring defects of character into lovable quirks.

Nice render. There's quite a bit of detail put into it.
